Fixing a broken dress

One of my favorite dress has been sitting in the wardrobe untouched since last May cause of a tear at the back.

I needed a red dress for a company event and was contemplating between getting a new dress or repairing this. I took out the dress for a look and feel. Without second thoughts, it still sparks a lot of joy, so I decided to replace the torn part!

Here's how it looked like before the replacement.

The plan was to head out to find a similar fabric to replace it but I was nursing a bad cold the week before the event. I finally felt better a day before the event but it was to late to hit the stores to look for something. Decided to find something from my existing stash in hopes that something matches this dress.

Lo and behold, I found this textured mini polka dots fabric in a similar tone.

Ripped off the torn strip, placed it over my fabric, indicated the seam allowances on the fabric and snipped! Connected the 2 blocks of fabric for the back first, then connected it to the front block. Pinned it in position and sew along! I did a machine blind stitching for the hem.

Here's how it looks like after changing!

Which do you prefer?

I received a few compliments that the dress looks nicer now. Personally I like this version more cause polka dots are fun!

I'm feeling so geared up to sew more things!
