Changi Chapel & Museum

My colleague & I made a trip to Changi Chapel & Museum near our workplace after 4 years in Singapore Prison Headquarters. We had to sneak there during lunch time! :D

In honouring the spirit and commitment of those who rose from the depths of adversity, the Museum inspires future generations to come and deepen their appreciation of the heroic and inspirational stories that unfolded in Changi during the war. The Changi Museum is dedicated to all those who lived and died in Singapore, in particular the Changi area, during the dark years of World War II.

Main entrance

The Chapel.

Well wishes and messages from visitors.

Tsurus (Japanese cranes) at the museum. Messages of world peace were left by Japanese visitors.  More info on Tsuru here.

Sand from Changi Beach, believed to be the first killing ground in Singapore. It was the site for the massacre of 66 Chinese men by the Japanese soldiers.

There were many exhibits surrounding the chapel (photography not allowed) - stories and pictures of Prisoner of Wars, old Changi Prison and its workshops. The trip was educating. :)

Japanese Cemetery Park

The Japanese Cemetery Park (Kanji: 日本人墓地公園; rōmaji: Nihonjin bochi kōen) is a cemetery and park in Hougang, Singapore. It is the largest Japanese cemetery in South East Asia at 29,359 square metres, consisting of 910 tombstones that contain the remains of members of the Japanese community in Singapore, including young Japanese prostitutes, civilians, soldiers and convicted war criminals executed at Changi Prison in Singapore. It was gazetted (announced or published in an official journal or in a newspaper) as a memorial park by the Singapore Government in 1987.

My Shooting Journey

Today is an important day because I got my first DSLR after 2 years of contemplation. I woke up one morning and decided I have had enough of compact camera's limitations, noisy and almost always 2 dimension (spell flat) looking pictures. I want more, more depth, clearer pictures. I fantasised taking sharp pictures of my ever-moving kitties in the house, nice landscape pictures when I travel, the list goes on...

A set of Canon EOS 550D (also known as Rebel T2i), paired with Tamron 18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD now sits in my bedroom, and our journey is about to begin. :)
