Set of Pyjamas

Realised that I only have a set of pyjamas for my upcoming confinement while organising my post birth items so I made one set for myself! I've sewn many pants for Colin but this is a first for myself! Got the cotton jersey fabric from Spotlight at $8/m! I used about 2m for this set. Did not use any pattern, just placed the existing pyjamas I have and cut accordingly with seam allowance. It's so big the heavily pregnant me can also wear it now. :D Just hope that the white polka dots won't turn pick after washing.

Sewing was a little different this time cause Colin was very eager to help. He passed me the pins and decided on the green button snaps! Hubs told me the green snaps made the pyjamas look very strawberry. :D

Burdastyle 10/2010 Tie-front Blouse

Tie-front Blouse, my first Burdastyle pattern attempt! I'm a Burdastyle size 36 girl.

The instructions were too brief for beginners to comprehend. I was progressing fine until step 5, which got me totally lost. Reading it 20 times didn't help, so I decided to follow my gut feel and proceed with whichever feels right. haha. :)

I'm taking a break after step 6 - attaching sleeves. Sneak peek!

My first top

This top was made to match my skirt. :) My first attempt with knits. The experience wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. The instructions, with illustrations (same sewing book as skirt), were easy to interpret. I relied more on the illustrations though cause I have problems reading chinese. Furthermore, this book was written in traditional chinese, not the simplified chinese I was taught in school.

Basically I just needed to cut fabrics for the front, back and bias for collar, then piece all together. I found it easy to serge the pieces together. Pictures time!

Front view. I added a flower brooch bought 7 years ago.

Close up on the collar.

The sleeve.

My first skirt

This Lunar New Year I sewed an outfit for myself - a lazy day skirt and a top. Let me show you the skirt first cause the weather hasn't been kind to my camera. :)

A really simple project which took me less than half a day to finish.

I decided on this skirt pattern after browsing through my little collection of sewing books. This was found from the following book.

Material used was 100% cotton fabric by Robert Kaufman . The skirt is very light and comfortable, especially on a warm day (which means most of the days in Singapore). :P

Peasant Dress

Another dress from a japanese book titled "Dress Style Book". It's called peasant dress. I used raglan sleeves instead, with elastic bands inserted. I like how the elastic band makes the creases look neater. :)
Closer view of the dress. This was the first time I worked with bias tape.

Matched the dress with Naraya hat form Thailand and shoes from Taiwan.
Kitty decided to join in the fun..
The dress is comfortable and airy for humid Singapore. My friend commented that it can double up as a maternity dress too. :)

Summer Dress

Finally found time to take picture of the first dress I made - Summer Dress! Pattern from japanese book titled "Dress Style Book". The neckline is made higher than original. I've worn this dress out many times.. It's perfect for the most-of-the-time-sunny Singapore. :)

Look at those awful t-shirt sleeve tan lines on my arms! I should hide from the sun when I ride.

Currently...

Working on this.
There are many firsts in this project:
- using the 'eyelet' stitch
- sewing sleeves
- elastic sleeves
- drawstring collar

Low Waist Ruffles Dress

This is my 2nd dress from a japanese book titled "Dress Style Book". The original dress has 3 ruffles which I felt was too cluttered. I took a long time to decide using 1 instead cause I had the hardest time hemming all the ruffles! XD

Love the dress! Great for wedding dinners!
